How To Tell The Difference Between Good & Bad Links
Backlinks–while a powerful and necessary part of a good SEO strategy–are not created equal. There are bad or even malicious links out there that can hurt your website. How can you tell the difference between these types of links? Our SEO experts at realdrseattle® provide some tips for how to tell the difference between good and bad links.
First, check the authority score of the referring website. This can be done by various online tools or SEO tools that you may already subscribe to. If the authority score is low, this does not automatically indicate spam or bad links (personal blogs tend to have low authority scores but could be a genuine link). However, many tools can point out spam websites or links.
Second, do you know about the link? While you certainly will not curate every single backlink you receive, if one looks suspicious and you were unaware of it, it is more likely to be a low quality link. Additionally, sometimes even links you curated can break or go down, while this is not within your control, staying on top of this will help your SEO.
Finally, if a link appears hidden on a referring website or comes from an inorganic source, this is a surefire way to identify a link which should be disavowed. To learn more and schedule a free marketing consultation, call us at 206-787-0784 or reach out online via chat or contact form.
